Tha Carter III Still Reigns in Hip-Hop Charts, LousiAnimal Mixtape Released

Lil’ Wayne’s LP Tha Carter III is still on top of the hip-hop album sales chart and in sixth place in the overall album sales chart. According to Billboard.com, for the week ending 8/17/08 Tha Carter III moved over 60,000 units to bring the total sales to over 2.2 million. Tha Carter III now has four singles after the latest single “Got Money” featuring T-Pain was officially suceeded by “Mrs. Officer” featuring Bobby Valentino. Wayne can also be heard featured on another two fairly recent singles– T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It” and The Game’s “My Life.” Both of the songs feature Weezy using the T-Pain styled digital voice processing. I’m speculating that Lil’ Wayne’s recent heavy use of the style could be hinting at his enthusiasm for the rumored album with T-Pain tentatively titled He Rap, He Sing.

We all know Wayne never stops working, and after Tha Carter III he has continued to put out new material. You can check us out on YouTube for new songs featuring Nutt Da Kidd. There always seems to be a plethora of unofficial Wayne mixtapes floating around but today I am going to endorse one of them. Trapaholics and DJ Rell’s mixtape LouisiAnimal gathers up all the latest material from Wayne and a few new tracks and delivers them to us in a neat package. The Empire also has a popular unofficial mixtape out at the moment as an encore to The Drought is Over series entitled From Another Planet. However, we all know Wayne has condemned The Empire DJ’s for their work in leaking Tha Carter III tracks, and so do we. So in other words, $%^& The Empire and don’t support them.

Got Money

The Rolling Stones Sue Lil’ Wayne

Lil’ Weezy’s in trouble with the law. The poor guy’s already got other rappers up his ass, but now he’s got rock bands to deal with. The charges originate from a music publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones’ song “Play With Fire.” If you have heard Tha Carter III, you can probably already figure out what the law suit is for: copyright infringement and unfair competition.

Abkco Music Inc believes that Lil’ Wayne’s song “Playin’ With Fire” was derived from the Stone’s song without their permission. Keep in mind that Playin’ With Fire does not use a sample but merely bears very close resemblance to the Rolling Stones’ song. One of the notable similarities that the lawsuit claims is a lyric from the Stones song is “But don’t play with me, ’cause you’re playing with fire,” and the Lil Wayne version has the line, “But you can’t blame me if I set this stage on fire.”

Wayne has yet to comment on the situation. Updates will be posted as they happen.

Lil Wayne Plays A Modern-Day Robin Hood In ‘Got Money’ Video

Weezy always has the dough, but in his new video for “Got Money,” he’s giving back to the community — just not with his own moolah. MTV gives us a quick glimpse at what looks to be a great video. Check it out.

Lil Wayne ft. T-Pain - Got Money Preview

During the performance scenes, Wayne’s collaborator T-Pain joins in, wearing a T-shirt that says “He Sings … ,” while Wayne’s shirt reads “He Raps … .” And there are a bunch of other guests, such as Ray J, but we won’t spoil the surprise.

Wayne Confronted by 40 Glocc, Spider Loc and dissed by Jay-Z

It’s no secret that fame causes much scrunity. And when you’re on the top of the top, the problem only becomes worse. In case you haven’t heard, Lil’ Wayne ran into some trouble after filming for his new “Got Money” video. Upon leaving the video shoot, rappers 40 Glocc and Spider Loc set up a roadblock to confront Lil’ Wayne and his entourage. Spider Loc has previously been labeled an “internet gangbanger” for his YouTube shenanigans in the past so it’s no surprise he had a camera on hand that day.

In case you don’t want to watch the whole clip, I’ll quickly summarize. Wayne and Baby are allegedly sitting in one of the two Cadillac Escalades but are unable to move because the cars that have been set up to block them. The only real proof that Wayne is in the car is that the bodyguard seen standing next to the Escalade was also seen in the “A Milli” video where he played a quick cameo as Wayne’s bodyguard. Assuming Wayne and Baby were in the truck, I have no explanation as to why they didn’t step out to confront the situation. Spider Loc explained a few days later what he wanted to ask Lil’ Wayne. Pay close attention and you’ll see that he’s still wearing the same shirt from the first video.

So there you have it. Spider Loc, a crip, is upset over Weezy’s line in Shawty Lo’s song “They Know.” The line he is upset over: “Suwoo gang [bloods], and if you ain’t with it then you in the food chain.” Spider Loc is not amused being called a “water creature.”

We will update if Wayne has a response to what happened.

Allhiphop.com is reporting Jay-Z called out Lil’ Wayne on stage during in a performance in the United Kingdom.

Via Allhiphop:

Now, during the concert, Jay breaks into “Dirt Off Ya Shoulder” and drops verse three acapella. Something odd happens. Nomally, Jay would say, “I drop that Black Album then I back, out it, As the best rapper alive, n***a ask about me.” But, he didn’t say that. From what I understand, Jay-Z said, “I drop that Black Album then I back, out it, As the best rapper alive, WEEZY ask about me.” Immediately after that, the “A Milli” beat dropped and Jay does his “A Billi” rap. Keep in mind it is purely a rumor and may be completely false.

Arrest Rumors Dissipate, Wayne Performs in Jamica, Carter III is 2x Platinum

There is good news to report across the board for Lil’ Wayne today. Firstly, the rumors of an arrest after fight with New Orleans rapper Lil’ Dee turned out to be meaningless chatter. We can confirm Wayne hasn’t been booked because he just wrapped up Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica among T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, Akon, and many others. Wayne apparently performed “Got Money” with T-Pain on the last day of the event (July 19th.)

And finally, the greatest news of all. Tha Carter III is officially RIAA certified double platinum! Weezy eclipsed the 2 million unit count within the last few days and is now shooting for 3 million. Depending on what single comes out next, I think triple platinum is easily attainable.

Developing: Lil’ Wayne Arrested After Fight with Rapper Lil’ Dee

Lil’ Wayne is doing time after a reported altercation with New Orleans native artist Lil’ Dee. The charges include second degree assault and two counts of possession of a firearm. A tip was submitted to SOHH that details what happened in the altercation: Wayne had the upper hand in the fight; Lil’ Dee got one good shot in. Apparently, Weezy has already been booked and is away in the pen but further details are still unknown.

The story is still shaping up and updates will be added as they are discovered.

Barack Obama Mentions Lil Wayne

While speaking to African-American youth at a townhall meeting in Powder Springs, Georgia, democratic candidate Barack Obama praised Lil Wayne’s rapping ability:

“You are probably not that good a rapper. Maybe you are the next Lil’ Wayne, but probably not, in which case you need to stay in school,” Obama said, speaking about high school drop out rates and the need for people to be committed to working hard in school.

So stay in school kids cause you’ll never be Weezy!

“The Carter” Documentary Now Filming

What could be better than the run that Lil’ Wayne is currently on? The fans have been hit hard with a plethora of mixtapes over the last few years culminating to the platinum-selling Tha Carter III. Now, it’s time for Hollywood. Filming on the documentary The Carter has begun on the life and times of Dwayne Michael Carter. The film’s expected release is 2009, let’s hope it doesn’t get pushed back like Tha Carter III so often was.

From the producers who delivered the Tupac Shakur documentary, Thug Angel, as well as the popular Beef DVD series, QD3 Entertainment in association with Young Money Entertainment, has announced plans to release the first-ever biography on the life and career of Weezy. Directed by filmmaker Adam Lough (The Upsetter, which chronicled the life and music of reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry), the film will explore the man, his family and the drive behind his fame.

“We at Young Money are thrilled to be working with QD3 on the production of The Carter,” noted Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant in a statement. “As Weezy’s manager and lifelong friend, I am excited to see Wayne’s story documented with truth and sincerity. Not only is Wayne the hottest musician in the business, but his life story reads something like a Hollywood script enabling this film to break boundaries. And there is no doubt in Wayne’s mind that this film will exceed any and all expectation. He’s a f@#king rockstar!”

QD3 Entertainment recently started following around Lil’ Wayne and manage the site WeezyBlog. It becomes apparent that QD3 will probably be with Wayne for the next few months to keep his blog updated and to film for the documentary. We will be keeping a close watch on this story and hoping the movie comes out soon!

Official “A Milli” Video! - “Got Money” Video Coming Soon

The official video for “A Milli” has been released. I guess it can be described as a video showing Weezy getting ready for an actual music video shoot.

In other news, the “Got Money” video is now in the works. Check out what Weezy himself had to say over on his official blog.
